OREANDA-NEWS. July 15, 2008. In January-June 2008, Vostochny port handled 10.840 million tonnes of cargo (+2.2%, year-on-year). In the reported period, the port handled 10.710.1 million tonnes of dry cargo (+1.8%, y-o-y) including 8.764.0 mln tonnes of dry bulk and loose cargo (+0.04%). Transshipment of coal amounted to 8.221.2 million tonnes (-0.4%), mineral fertilizers – 521,200 tonnes (+7%), timber – 67,600 tonnes (down 3-fold, against January-June 2007). In the first half of 2008, transshipment of general cargo totaled 96,900 tonnes (up 6.5 times against H1 07) including 78,900 tonnes of scrap metal scrap (up 7.5 times against H1 07). In the reported period container throughput totaled 203,467 TEU (+15.9%). In January-June 2008, the port handled 129,900 tonnes of oil products (+39.5%).

Vostochny port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters, length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 15 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
