OREANDA-NEWS. On 21 July 2008 was announced, that during the first six months of 2008, the number of people who use Lattelecom’s permanent internet services increased by 23% in comparison to the same period in the previous year – to 168,7 thousand users in all, according to the company’s statistics.

Currently the most of Lattelecom constant internet subscriptions are in Riga, Riga region and Jurmala - 77,8 thousands -, what is for 23% more than the year before. A significant increase in the numbers of the internet subscriptions is observed also outside Riga region, where it has grown for 19% within the year. Speaking about the regions the biggest increase in the numbers of users was in the regions of Jekabpils and Talsi, where the number of the internet subscriptions has risen for 31%. In its turn in the regions the biggest amounts of the internet subscribers are in the city of Jelgava and Jelgava region, where the number of the subscriptions exceeds ten thousands, which is followed the regions of Daugavpils and Liepaja.

„We can give a positive evaluation to the fact that for some years the number of Lattelecom internet subscriptions outside Riga region has been growing dynamically. It is influenced by the computer affordability, increase of the internet content quality and its offered opportunities as well as company’s introduced improvements, for instance, the introduction of Lattelecom TV and the offer to establish the internet connection by clients’ own efforts thus saving money,” indicates Kerli Gabrilovica.

Lattelecom has been offering the constant internet subscriptions using the DSL technology since 2000. A significant increase in the number of the users started in 2005, but especially fast growth of the number has been happening since August 2006, when the company introduced the service Mвjas komplekts (Home Package). In April 2007 Lattelecom alsobrought in the service of the digital television with many additional innovative functions inclusive of the virtual video rental and the broadcast record function.

Since the end of 2006 Lattelecom has also been offering also wireless internet WiMAX, which enables establishing the internet in the places, where there are no cable networks available. Currently it is possible to use Lattelecomwireless internet WiMAX  in the surroundings of ten base stations located in Riga and its vicinity, in Ogre, Daugavpils, in Zalenieki of Jelgava region and Dunalka of Liepaja region.
