OREANDA-NEWS. July 24, 2008. During the large-scale event "Russian Field Day" organized for agricultural producers in the Belgorod region, IC ROSNO and FGU "Russian Agricultural Consulting Centre" held a seminar on the new agricultural risk insurance technologies, reported the press-centre of ROSNO.

The Russian Field Day is an annual event organized under the auspices of the RF Ministry of Agriculture, Belgorod Regional Administration, Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences and OJSC "Agropromyshlenny Kompleks VVZ".

This exhibition has been held since 2004, being the largest Russian showcase of modern resource-saving agricultural technologies, selection achievements in plant cultivation, and the latest agricultural machinery. This year, the event gathered together over 250 participants from Russia and abroad and attracted attention of over 15 thousand agricultural experts from 22 countries.

The exhibition participants have shown significant interest and were involved in an important discussion at the ROSNO seminar — in particular, during the presentation made by the director of ROSNO’s Agricultural and Natural Risk Insurance Department Mr. Leonid Golovanov and dedicated to the issues related to the changing terms of the state-sponsored insurance coverage. "Today, the Russian agriculture needs innovations to develop. It is high time to modify the terms of the state-sponsored insurance coverage and offer new insurance programs, which would be interesting, above all, to the agricultural enterprises. To work out a comprehensive and much-needed insurance product, the interested parties shall join their efforts: in particular, professional agricultural advisors need to be hired. It is only this approach that will make insurance an actually efficient tool protecting agricultural producers and promoting the industry’s competitiveness", Mr. Golovanov noted in his speech.

At the conclusion of the seminar, the participants issued a resolution outlining most relevant issues of the development of agricultural insurance in Russia. The participants emphasized that the decisions needed to resolve the problems which have en masse accumulated in this economy sector in connection with mitigation of external nature-related and other risks shall be taken to the benefit of agricultural producers at all levels of agricultural management, and primarily at the level of the territorial subjects of the Russian Federation. They also expressed hope that the combined efforts of the specialized agencies will result in building a more effective state-sponsored insurance protection system.
