According to him, increase in the share of industry in GDP is one of the main objectives of the department. Other important tasks are to increase export of industrial products, ensure maximum provision of the domestic market with local products, increase the number of employees in the industry, introduce ISO standards, support investments, create and develop industrial sectors.

Copaci said that in I half of 2008, industrial output amounted to 14.1 billion leis (908 million euros), increasing by 4.6% as compared with the same period of the last year. About 16 thousand economic agents were registered in the industrial sector or 12.3% of the total number of business entities in the country. Currently, 679 large industrial enterprises, 9% of which are state-owned operate in the country.
