OREANDA-NEWS. On July 29, 2008 IBA and IBM Eastern Europe/Asia (IBM EE/A) conducted a workshop named “Building of distributed systems of high reliability and availability based on IBM Power Systems platform”. The event took place in the IBA office in Minsk, Belarus, reported the press-centre of IBA.

Giennady Molchanov, IBA Sales Director in the CIS countries, and Victor Merkuriev, IBM EE/A representative welcomed the participants. In addition, representatives of the Ministry of Taxes and Duties of the Republic of Belarus, and the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus attended the workshop.

At the event, Alexei Perevoztchikov and Alexander Trofimov, IBM EE/A experts, spoke on the IBM Power Systems-based up-to-date turn-key solution designed to create distributed systems of high reliability and availability. Valery Koziuminsky, Head of the IBA IT security testing lab, delivered a speech on information security while building distributed systems. Dmitry Kontorovitch, Deputy Head of IT department of the National Bank and Dmitry Protsyk, Head of the IBA department of service backup for computing systems, shared experience of technical maintenance of the systems based on IBM Power Systems (IBM AS/400, iSeries, System i) in Belarus.

In his closing speech, Vladimir Poluyan, First Deputy Minister for Taxes and Duties of Belarus, stressed high importance of the issues discussed at the workshop.

The aim of the workshop is to assist the banking and public sectors in improving quality and thoroughness of service they provide to businesses and citizenry. Indeed, activities of those structures demand advanced security, protection from unauthorized access and high availability (24 hours 365 days a year).
