OREANDA-NEWS. July 31, 2008. As it is noted at the site of EBRD, the decision will be taken during the meeting of the directors’ board of the bank on September 30, 2008. It is planned that the loan will be used for rehabilitating and upgrading the runway and the airport itself.

The Bank will also co-finance the project worth 38 million euros. The implementation of the project will increase the number of areas that may be leased, bring extra revenue and increase competition in the aviation of Moldova.

The heads of Chisinau International Airport plans to attract strategic investor for the creation of the large cargo terminal (hub). It could be one of the major companies specializing in cargo and mail transportation. In 1998, EBRD has provided Chisinau international airport with the loan of USD 9 million for the first project of modernization of the airport, worth \\$ 12 million.

Another USD 3 million are allocated by the Government of Moldova. The EBRD operates in Moldova since 1992 and as of early 2008, allocated about 230 million euros for implementation of 59 projects.

The loans granted for infrastructure development represent 52% of the loan portfolio of the bank. Earlier the member of the Board of Directors of the Bank Terence Brown announced that in 2008 the bank will provide Moldova with the loans worth 110 million euros.

The funds will be distributed for development projects for the banking sector, development of transport and energy infrastructure as well as some projects for municipal infrastructure development.
