OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2008. In 2008, Ukraine will have over 40% of high-quality bread grain from the new harvest.

Anatoliy Rozghun, director of the agricultural policy ministry's department for the development of agrarian market, made this forecast at a press conference.

Despite the big crop, in 2008 there will be less high-quality bread grain than in 2007, he said adding the problem will also emerge in the countries of the European Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Rozghun also said 25 million tons of wheat had been already harvested, which would give over 10 million tons of food wheat. About 5 million tons is enough to meet the domestic demand of the Ukrainian market.

"Thus, there are real chances to export bread wheat, taking into account the demand for it in the EU and CIS countries," he said.

In his words, elevators now keep over 15 million tons of grain, thus their average loading is 35%.

The current problem, in his words, is the storage of rape. Beside that, the functioning elevators are being prepared for the storage of sunflower seeds.
