OREANDA-NEWS. August 20, 2008. Ukraine is drawing up an agreement with Gazprom without mediators RosUkrEnergo and UkrGaz-Energo, Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Minister Yuriy Prodan said.

He noted that the document would foresee long-term relations with the Russian side and predicted gas tariffs.

Prodan said that if Russia increases gas prices, Ukraine would then review tariffs for the transit of Russian gas across Ukraine. Talks are currently being held on the supplies and transit of natural gas to Ukraine and from Ukraine to Europe, he said.

On August 15, experts from two countries at a meeting in Kyiv agreed to analyze intergovernmental agreements on gas supplies by October and put forward proposals on major principles ensuring predicted and bilateral cooperation in gas sector.

The next meeting on the inventory and analysis of the existing intergovernmental agreement in gas sector is scheduled for September 2008.

Ukraine and Russia are regulating their relations in gas sector in accordance with respective intergovernmental protocols.

Russia is the only importer of gas to Ukraine. Ukraine, in turn, is the largest transit country for Russian gas to Europe.
