OREANDA-NEWS. August 29, 2008. A group of representatives of St. Petersburg Atomenergoproekt, the general designer of Baltic Nuclear Power Plants, have met with the governor of Kaliningrad region Georgy Boos.

Infrastructure Development Minister of Kaliningrad region Alexander Rolbinov, Deputy Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Pyotr Schedrovitsky, head of NPP-2006 Project Office Sergey Boyarkin, President of Atomstroyexport CJSC, Director of St.Petersburg Atomenergoproekt Leonid Reznikov and the chief engineers of the project Alexander Kazarin and Ivan Grabelnikov took part in the meeting.

Aug 13 2008 Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Sergey Kiriyenko signed decree “On Organization of Work to Construct Baltic Nuclear Power Plant (Kaliningrad region)”.

The two units of the plant with WWER-1200 reactors (1,200 MW pressurized water reactor) are supposed to be designed by the end of 2009.

Boos said that the construction of Baltic NPP would help the region to solve its urgent social-economic problems. Particularly, the region will have stable electricity and heat supply. Besides, the project will involve local construction companies and will create additional jobs for the local population. And finally the new plant will be an additional source of tax revenues for the local budget.

Reznikov said that the project of Baltic NPP was based on the project of Leningrad NPP-2 (where St.Petersburg is the general designer and general contractor). “Naturally, it will be adjusted to the conditions of Kaliningrad region,” Reznikov said.

“Here we will probably apply the same management system that is presently used under LNPP=2 project. It will help us to more effectively manage our financial organizational, technical, human and other resources,” Reznikov said.
