OREANDA-NEWS. September 3, 2008. Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin hopes that Russia and Uzbekistan will successfully implement their projects to develop pipeline transportation. During a meeting in Tashkent on Tuesday Putin told President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov that he had agreed with his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyev to act within their earlier agreements.

At the same time, Putin pointed out that he would like the Uzbek president to confirm those agreements.

He pointed out that the agreements to develop pipeline transportation were important not only for Russia and Uzbekistan but also for Uzbekistan’s neighbors, particularly, Turkmenistan, as well as for their partners in Western Europe.

Putin also hopes that the Tashkent Aviation Production Association (TAPO) will join the United Aircraft Corporation (Russia has already ratified the relevant agreement, Uzbekistan not yet).

Putin pointed out that Russia and Uzbekistan had big potential for developing their economic cooperation in high-tech and nuclear energy sectors.
 

Putin said that they in Moscow hoped that Russia and Uzbekistan would restore and further develop their relations in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy.

He pointed out the strategic importance of Russian-Uzbek relations.
