OREANDA-NEWS. On September 4, 2008 Director General of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, Chairman of Board of Directors of Atomenergoprom OJSC Sergey Kiriyenko opened the inauguration ceremony.

A total of 3.411bln RUR has been invested in the project. The money is expected to pay off in 2008–2012.

The technology of the plant is based on the production of silicon from a mixture of chlorosilanes reduced by hydrogen.

The hydrogen reduction units of Polycrystalline Silicon Plant have been designed and manufactured by Krasnoyarsk Machine Building Plant. Some of the systems have been imported from abroad. All the equipment is ecologically safe and low-waste.

For the moment Polycrystalline Silicon Plant is part of Mining Chemical Combine. In the future it may become a separate open joint stock company.

Experts say that the global demand for polycrystalline silicon and its prices will be steadily growing in the coming years. Polycrystalline silicon is used in electronics and in the production of photoelectric transducers.
