OREANDA-NEWS On 09 September Southern Telecommunications Company [(RTS: KUBN, KUBNP; MICEX: UTEL, UTELP; ADR OTC: STJSY, KUE FRA)], No. 1 fixed-line operator in the South Federal District, released the results of the promotion of value-added services in January-June 2008 and plans for the second half of the year.

Southern Telecommunications Company’s VAS earnings surged 57.8% y-o-y to Rub 2,017.97 mln in January-June 2008, including a 55.9% climb in Internet proceeds, a 44.9% spike in VPN services and a 57.9% increase in revenues from intellectual network solutions. At the same time, the percentage of VAS in the company’s telecom revenues rose to 20.5% compared to 13.9% in January-June 2007.

Following intensive promotion of new technologies and efforts to improve the sales system Southern Telecommunications Company holds firm positions on the VAS market in the South Federal District.

In the first half of 2008 broadband Internet (BI) subscribers (xDSL technology) leapt 121% in January-June 2008 vs. the end of H107.

Along with a growing customer base, there has been sustainable growth in the volumes of services offered. For instance, Internet traffic spiked 128.3% to 2.41 Tb, while dialup connections rose 2.6% to 2,091.6 mln minutes.
