OREANDA-NEWS  On 16 September was announced, that according to State Road Traffic Safety Inspection, more than 3 million vehicles are currently registered in Moscow and about 400,000 ones come to the Russian capital from the Moscow region and other regions of Russia every day. The city authorities have solved this problem in one of the Moscow districts.

A complicated structure was put up near a business centre in Moscow in spring 2008. The cars owned by the staff, clients and guests occupy all parking spots in it. The management of the company located there decided to experiment – to construct multilevel mechanized parking upon the western model.

Evgeny Varov, CEO of the company, said that the parking was constructed as a pilot project. When the parking for 21 vehicles appears on the area occupied by 7-8 cars, it demonstrates mathematically that it enables to solve the local problems partially.

An electronic system reads off a car owner’s card and sets the car on the ground level. The maximum time for setting the car down is 3 minutes.

Multilevel parking is one of the solutions to the problem, but the city officials aren’t obsessing over it and keep considering all possible alternatives.

Yury Khardikov, Prefect of the northern administrative district of Moscow, noted: “A number of vehicles in Moscow is growing and will grow. A number of the city dwellers is also growing, the people begin to live better, they have cars. Underground car parks and mechanized parking are most likely the things of the future as there are a great deal of street car parks in Moscow.”

It is impossible to take all vehicles away from grass plots, but it is possible to protect lawns from tyres. An ecological car park is a metal framework inside of which grass grows. It doesn’t differ from a grass plot, but vehicles don’t spoil the ground. Today it is the most prospective solution to the problem of the shortage of parking spots in the yards near the dwelling houses.
