OREANDA-NEWS. September 10, 2008. Relatives of Egle Knepiene, the client of Parex Bankas, will be paid an insurance claim amounting to LTL 1.381 million (EUR 400 000), reported the press-centre of Parex Bankas.

Such a decision was passed by the management of the insurance company International SOS, a partner of Parex Bankas, after four months’ investigation of the case. An insurance claim was guaranteed to the relatives of the bank’s client, who lost her life while diving, by the American Express Platinum card issued by Parex Bankas. Apart from a number of benefits, the card guarantees insurance to the card holder and accompanying persons while travelling.

According to the experts of the insurance market, the claim paid to the relatives of the deceased person is record high in Lithuania. Scuba diving is included in the list of non-insured events, therefore, experts of International SOS investigated whether Mrs. Knepiene died because of a heart attack, which may have occurred anywhere anytime, or her death was influenced by her hobby of diving.

“We are glad that the case has been investigated on our bank client’s behalf,” Alma Vaitkunskiene, Chairwoman of the Board of Parex Bankas, stated. “This is one of the specific cases when Parex Bankas, which issues and services cards in Lithuania, together with one of the well-known companies worldwide, American Express, and an insurance partner, a well-known international insurance company International SOS, demonstrated that they really kept their promises of taking full care not only of the client, but also of the client’s family members.”

“We have taken notice of the client’s insurance contract. Although the investigation took some time, the decision adopted is advantageous to the relatives of the client of Parex Bankas,” Graham Locke, Business Development Director of International SOS, briefly explained.

Parex Bankas started issuing prestigious American Express Platinum and Gold payment cards in Lithuania relatively recently – since October 2007. In April this year, the bank launched one more credit card on the Lithuanian market – BLUE from American Express.

It is the only credit card in the market which gives cash back of up to 1 per cent depending on the amount of payments made by card. Apart from a number of advantages, all American Express cards guarantee insurance to card holders and accompanying persons while traveling.

Parex Bankas is the sole official representative of the world-recognised financial services organisation American Express in Lithuania. Parex Bankas services the cards and ensures that American Express clients are provided with the first-rate services both in Lithuania and abroad.
