OREANDA-NEWS. On September 16, 2008 President Alexander Lukashenko toured the Pinsk and Stolin districts, Brest Region, reported the Official website http://president.gov.by.

The Head of State looked at how efficient were the technologies implemented in cattle breeding, how the district authorities were tackling the fodder protein shortage by cultivating sunflower and soy-bean and looked at the progress in constructing sports facilities in the area.

The President visited the Volna universal sports complex of Polessky State University in Pinsk.

In general, Alexander Lukashenko was satisfied with what he saw, but pointed to some urgent problems at the same time.

The President raised the problem of employment of the PSU graduates. Before instituting a new specialisation, one should make sure it is essential and needed, he said.

Polessky State University should give an impetus to the development of the Polessye, according to Alexander Lukashenko. The appearance of an institution of higher learning in Pinsk, which is a relatively small town, should bear positively on both social and economic life of the entire region. The state invested big money in this University, and therefore the University should give the appropriate results.

Governor Konstanin Sumar of the Brest Region reported to the President on development of sport in the region. There are 39 stadiums, 3 ice palaces, 5 sports arenas, 780 sport gyms, 33 roofed swimming pools in the region. In Pinsk, there are 152 sports facilities. Around 30,000 young athletes do 15 types of sport in various sports schools around Pinsk.

While at the Volna sports complex, Alexander Lukashenko visited the ice arena, choreography hall, healthy lifestyle research lab, team sports hall, swimming pool. The complex is open not only for the students of Polessky State University, but also for all town residents.
