OREANDA-NEWS  On 01 October was announced, that the Ukrainian parliament passed a law on establishing a “green tariff” for so-called “alternative” electricity and heat producers which have a lesser impact on the environment. These tariffs will be set directly by the regulator. They are guaranteed by law to be at least twice the level of the cost of electricity to the wholesale market for the year preceding the tariff decision but less than twice the level of the current price on the competitive segment of the wholesale market.

The long anticipated law is of interest primarily to producers running wind power stations and small scale hydropower projects (large Ukrhydroenergo units are expressly excluded). The few wind power farms operating in Ukraine are privately held so the main beneficiaries among listed companies will be regional distributors with small hydro plants ZakarpattyaOblenergo < ZOEN UZ N/R  > and to a certain extent VinnytsyaOblenergo <  VIEN UZ N/R  > which has leased out much of its hydropower capacity to a private firm.
