OREANDA-NEWS. On September 30, 2008 Moldovan Prime Minister Zinaida Grecianii met a delegation of the Moldovan-British Friendship Group within the British parliament headed by  Dubs of Battersea, reported the Official website http://gov.md.

The officials discussed aspects of the bilateral relations between Moldova and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The prime minister praised  the British government s support offered to Moldova, specially in the process of European integration. "The British government has always backed Moldova's European aspirations, recently offering support to ensure the activity of the secretariat of the National Commission for European Integration," Grecianii noted.

Zinaida Grecianii also hailed the activity of the British embassy in Moldova, directed towards efficient cooperation between the two countries. She expressed her conviction that it will further be significantly on the rise.  In particular, the support of partners in the process of negotiations and, eventually, the signing of a  new agreement on Moldova's integration in the European Union is particularly important  to Moldova at the moment.

For his part, Lord Dubs of Battersea reiterated that the British people have positive feelings towards Moldova and the members of the Moldovan-British parliamentary friendship group encourage the development of the bilateral relations between the two countries.

The prime minister said that the Moldovan government is aware of the complexity of tasks and objectives assumed in the context of European integration, first of all at the internal level. Thus, the Moldovan authorities undertake concrete measures in order to advance along the European integration path.

Zinaida Grecianii gave several examples: the liberalisation of the economy, the revision of the legal and normative framework and its adjustment  to the European standards, the privatisation of state assets in several stock companies, when their sale is deemed appropriate for Moldova in exchange for important investments, the development of the infrastructure, the diversification of the ways of access to Moldova, including the construction of the Giurgiulesti  International Port and the Cahul-Giurgiulesti railway segment.
