OREANDA-NEWS  On 13 October was announced, that a delegation of the Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies (RUSNANO) headed by Director General Anatoly Chubais paid a visit to the Republic of Korea on October 5th to 8th.

During the trip the delegation visited several large Korean nanotechnological centers including the Korean Institute of Science and Technologies (KIST), National Nano Fab Center in Taejon, Korea Advanced Nano Fab Center, whose scope is not only limited to research, but includes production and commercialization of nanotechnology research results. The Russian experts had subject-specific discussions with Korean counterparts to identify the most promising ways of RUSNANO’s potential cooperation with these organizations.

The Corporation delegation also made a trip to the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), the central authority of the national standards system of South Korea, including the sphere of nanotechnologies. Following the meeting with the Corporation representatives, President of the Institute Mrs. Kwang Hwa Chung emphasized the understanding of high collaboration potential in the area of certification and standardization of nanotechnological research results, the field RUSNANO pays special attention to.

The visit schedule also included a workshop with representatives of the Nano Technology Research Association of Korea, which comprises such industry leaders as   LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics as well as small and medium venture companies working in the area of nanotechnologies. As a result several Korean companies submitted funding request for RUSNANO projects.

Another important event on the agenda was the meeting of Anatoly Chubais and Chang-Gyu Hwan, President of Samsung Electronics, where they discussed the prospects of expanding Samsung Electronics’ production capacities in Russia involving the use of nanotechnologies and setting up a joint production facility based on Russian nanotechnologies.

At the end of the trip to the Republic of Korea Anatoly Chubais met Byong-Man Ahn,   Minister of Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Korea. The sides reached common understanding of the need to take practical steps within the framework of the Memorandum on Mutual Understanding and Collaboration between RUSNANO and the Ministry signed by President of the Republic of Korea Lee Myung-bak on September 29th this year in Moscow during his visit to Russia.

- What we’ve seen in the Republic of Korea produces strong impressions. We will work towards turning these impressions into specific cooperation of the two countries in the area of nanotechnologies. We really hope that the trip will result in requests for joint work from Korean companies. We expect our Korean counterparts to participate in the Nanotechnology Forum to be held in Moscow in December this year, said Anatoly Chubais following the visit.
