OREANDA-NEWS. October 13, 2008. In the Leningrad Oblast Chamber of Trade and Industry in St. Petersburg, a group of specialists met for a roundtable discussion, the “Realization of Projects in the Small-Scale Electric Power Generation sector in the Northwestern Federal District.” Stroytransgaz was initiator of the meeting; publishing company Kommersant and the Coordinating Committee for Development of the Heat and Energy Complex of the Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Northwestern Federal District in St. Petersburg conducted the event. The meeting attracted more than 30 top managers of industry enterprises, representatives of administrative regions in the northwest, Russian and foreign investment companies, analysts, and experts. Discussions generated lively interest among attendees.

First Deputy Head of the Department of Electric Power Construction Stanislav Antipov represented Stroytransgaz at the roundtable session.

In welcoming remarks, Deputy Authorized Representative of the President to the Northwestern Federal District Evgeny Lukyanov noted that small-scale electric power generation is today, under conditions of ever-increasing demand for energy resources, the most economic solution to energy problems. Despite its rather modest share of small-scale energy generation in the country’s energy balance, (just over 1.2 percent), its significance in the life of the country is difficult to overestimate: autonomous small-scale energy generators make it possible to resolve electricity and heating problems in isolated and energy-deficient regions.

Time was devoted to such topics as experience in building and exploiting facilities for small-scale energy generation in Russia and abroad, opportunities and problems in using energy supply objects of the agricultural sector and housing construction, legislative initiatives, investment appeal.

Representatives of several organizations made reports during the meeting: Stroytransgaz, Infotecs, Sberbank, Evrazbank, Gazprombank, IDGC of North-West, Perm Motors, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Electrosfera, MDM Bank, republics of Karelia and Komi, Ernst & Young (CIS), Simon-Kucher & Partners, and others.
