OREANDA-NEWS. October 14, 2008. In January-September 2008, the port of Murmansk handled 21.08 million tonnes of cargo (+5.9%, year-on-year). In the reported period, transshipment of dry cargo amounted to 14.95 million tonnes (+26.6%, year-on-year), liquid bulk cargo – 6.13 million tonnes (-21%).

Murmansk Commercial Seaport OJSC accounts for 49% of the port’s total throughput. In the 9-month period Murmansk Commercial Seaport handled 10.33 million tonnes of cargo (-2,2%). The share of of-harbor transshipment complex Belokamenka made 23% of the port’s total throughput. In the reported period the complex decreased  transshipment of oil products by 4.1%, year-on-year, to 4.84 million tonnes. Throughput of the rest 13 stevedoring company of the port made 28% (5.91 million tonnes) of the port’s total throughput. 

The port of Murmansk is situated on Kola Peninsula on the coast of Barents Sea. The port is the world's largest located behind polar circle. Murmansk is the most northern of ice-free ports of Russia. Depths on approach fairways which extent makes 22 miles are big that ensures availability of the port to any vessels.
