OREANDA-NEWS. October 24, 2008. The Baltic or Scandinavian states are the most probable investors of the construction of Baltic Nuclear Power Plant (Kaliningrad NPP), President of Inter RAO UES Yevgeny Dod said during a press-conference today. He said that the Russian side was negotiating mostly with the countries neighboring on the future plant and interested in importing its electricity.

To remind, foreign investors will get a 49% stake in the project, with the controlling interest to be given to Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation.

To remind, on Apr 16 2008 Governor of Kaliningrad region Georgy Boos and Head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko signed an agreement for joint construction of a nuclear power plant – Kaliningrad NPP (Baltic NPP) – in the territory of the region. The 1st unit of the plant is supposed to be launched in 2015.

Almost 5bln EUR will be invested in the project. Each of the 1,200MW reactors will cost 2bln EUR, at least. Part of the money will be spent on infrastructure. The share of foreign investors in the plant will be 49%, with the controlling interest to be given to Atomstroyexport (Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation). Inter RAO UES has been authorized to search for investors and to organize the sale of the electricity to be produced by the future plant.
