OREANDA-NEWS. October 29, 2008. Sorainen partner Maksim Salahub delivered a presentation on legal aspects of investing and doing business in Belarus at the IV Belarusian-Latvian Forum which took place in the new building of the National Library in Minsk, reported the press-centre of Sorainen.

The annual event gathered over 300 participants, including ministers of economy and ambassadors of Latvia and Belarus, government officials of ministerial and municipal level from both sides, Latvian and Belarusian mass-media, and representatives of the government and private business sectors of both countries.

Speakers at the Forum were representatives of the National Bank of Belarus and Central Bank of Latvia, Latvian and Belarusian commercial banks, investment bankers, international property consultants, and businessmen. Topics discussed included new investment opportunities in the two countries, impact of the global financial crisis on the investment activities, and various issues of economic cooperation between Belarus and Latvia.

Sorainen presentation focused on practical issues faced by investors launching and running business in Belarus, privileges and exemptions granted by the Belarusian laws to the foreign capital, and privatization process which is now accelerated by the Belarusian government. These topics were especially interesting to the Latvian investors in the light of the rapid liberalization of Belarusian economy, exponential growth of trade between Latvia and Belarus, and stable increase of investment activity in the Belarusian market.
