OREANDA-NEWS. November 14, 2008. The realization of the project of rebuilding the port channel in Gdynia is already bringing its first benefits. Thanks to the deepening of Basin III the service of increasing number of units visiting bulk terminal is much easier. 8 ships loaded with 100 thousand tons of coal entered Port of Gdynia only in October.

Increased interest from contrahents in possibility of managing large amounts of coal is visible since September. First big transport (over 16 thousand tons) arrived on the ship Kapitan Bochek on September 26. The same unit visited Gdynia two more times that month.

MTMG –Maritime Bulk Terminal Gdynia Sp. z o.o. has noted even higher cargo turnover in October. 8 visits in the port resulted in record-breaking reloading of 98.7 thousand tons of coal. Next 14 visits of ships with coal are predicted till the end of this year.

Deepening of port channel and Wкglowy Basin (Holenderskie Quay - 12.7 m, Szwedzkie Quay - 10.6 m) allows managing large ships of Panamax type which carry 50 - 65 thousand tons each.

Such huge lots of coal have arrived in Gdynia already in November on ships m/v Korian (over 44 Thousand tons) and m/v Nord Atlantis (over 51 thousand tons).
The coal is imported from Russia, as well as Kazahstan, RSA, Indonesia or Australia.
