OREANDA-NEWS  On 17 November was announced, that IDGC of Centre, JSC receives international project management excellence award of IPMA. On 11 November, 3 o'clock in the morning, within the limits of the 22nd World IPMA (International Project Management Association) Congress in Rome, the solemn announcement of the winners who reached the final of the competition for reception of the International Project Management Excellence Award of the International Project Management Association took place.

The international jury headed by Vice President of IPMA Mrs. Mary McKinlay and consisting of world-wide recognized project management experts, has made the final decision according to which the project of IDGC of Centre “IT System Development” occupied the honorable third place. The company was represented by the project head - the Deputy General Director for IT and Management Technologies Pavel Obukhov.

At the gala performance, within the limits of the places distribution, he and other participants were awarded the prizes, certificates, and assessors’ reports on the projects represented at the competition.

“Let us congratulate the IDGC of Centre management and experts with a great and bright professional achievement - for the first time the Russian project has reached the final in the competition of the International Project Management Association for Project Management Excellence and continues participation in the competition to obtain the highest awards!”, the SOVNET President - the Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences Vladimir Voropayev congratulated the company. 

“The life has given us a chance to build a leader company, and we have taken this chance,” Evgeniy Makarov, the General Director of IDGC of Centre said. “It is especially pleasant that this is the first success of such a large scale in Russia and the CIS countries”.

For participation in the final of the competition, projects of the following companies were represented: Siemens AG - the project “Development and Commissioning of High-Speed Electric Train Velaro E2”; Saipem SpA - West Delta Deep Marine Phase IV Development Project; Snamprogetti SpA - HAWIYAH Gas Treating & Compression Facilities at HAWIYAH NGL Recovery Plant. These and another finalist projects were awarded the prizes and diplomas of the competition.

Pavel Obukhov presented a 70-second video film about the company and the project, and today in the afternoon, on 11 November, at a special congress meeting, he professionally presented the first Russian project in the history of the international competition realized by IDGC of Centre, JSC.

The project “IT System Development” started in August 2005. The reason for its creation was the Russian conditions of the power sector, in which it was necessary to apply innovative technologies in the management system. While it was developed, it had several phases - from simple integration of the reporting systems to establishment of a modern ERP system. During the work, processes of work of the company divisions were described; their re-engineering was made, and the digital model of business is now actually constructed. For this purpose, all ARIS products were studied and mastered. Six thousand people took part in realization of the project. “The project gave a good result not only for the company management”, Evgeniy Makarov said. “It gave a good result for our clients. Our partner companies use the designed IT resource. Our system operators use the billing system; the call center applies SRM system. The “IT System Development” project was completed on 1 April 2008.

IPMA Vice President Alexander Tovb noted that the company received the report on consolidated estimations made by a team of international assessors, which was approved by juries. It will allow to benchmark the presented project management with regard to the best project management, and to define spheres of its improvement. “Gaining a victory in such a competition is an outstanding achievement not only for IDGC of Centre, but also for the whole Russian professional community, which is rather significant for the further development and promotion of modern project management in Russia,” Alexander Samuilovich said.

The competition history: for the first time PM Excellence Award was organized in 2002. Since then, the list of winners grew thanks to participation of a lot of project teams from all over the world. The project estimation was carried out on the basis of the “Project Excellence” model. This model is an adaptable and open concept. The elements of the model are based on fundamental positions, concepts and experience of application of project management in the world. The model constantly develops on the basis of experience of outstanding organizations and project teams, to which IDGC of Centre joined.
