OREANDA-NEWS  On 27 November was announced, that a new mixed-use sports complex under construction in Strogino neighbourhood, northwest Moscow, is scheduled to be commissioned in summer 2009.

“The main purpose of the complex is to help the youth, the kids who go in for various sports in Strogino, the neighbourhood located far from our sports centres,” Yuri Luzhkov, Mayor of Moscow said.

The official added that the complex would comprise a training centre for figure skating with two ice arenas, two swimming pools (one of which is designed only for children) and a mixed-use sports hall.

The School of Olympic Perfect Mastery under the direction of Yelena Chaykovskaya, Honoured Trainer of Figure Skating, will be set up at the sports complex to be developed. Besides, it is planned to be used for the courses training figure skating, ice hockey playing, swimming and other sports activities.

Mr Luzhkov emphasized that the swimming pool of the complex would be able to host short-course swimming competitions. It will be equipped with speed checking devices and underwater cameras.

The complex is designed to accommodate roughly 2,200 people. It will also have an underground garage for 200 vehicles.
