OREANDA-NEWS. November 27, 2008. President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, as part of an official visit to Brazil, visited the central offices of the country’s largest state-owned oil and gas company, Petrobras. Joining the president in that visit were Chairman of the Management Board of Stroytransgaz Vyacheslav Makhonin, Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom Alexander Medvedev, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Andrei Denisov, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation Vladimir Tyurdenev.

During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for collaboration between Petrobras and Stroytransgaz, a continuation of earlier discussions in Moscow this year. They agreed to extend the Memorandum of Mutual Understanding and Cooperation to Realize Oil and Gas Projects. Its term was to expire in January 2009.

In addition, the Stroytransgaz delegation held discussions on collaboration in the oil and gas sphere with management of Petrobras subsidiary Transpertro and InterOil Corporation. Stroytransgaz also took part in the working breakfast that President Medvedev held with the Brazilian business community.

Broadening bilateral cooperation in energy, including nuclear, oil, and gas sectors was highlighted as one of the most important matters during discussions that President Medvedev and President of Brazil Luiz Inбcio Lula da Silva held with the business community.
