OREANDA-NEWS. December 8, 2008. Import-export transactions Trade between the Republic of Azerbaijan and foreign countries amounted to 42.2 billion USD during January – September 2008. This trade involved 135 countries. Some 39.0 billion dollar (88.2 per cent) of the foreign trade turnover was in exported goods and 5.2 billion dollar (11.8 per cent) in imported goods, resulting in a positive trade balance of 33.8 billion dollars.

The volume of foreign trade turnover increased by 5.4 times compared to January-September of the previous year, including exports 9.0 times higher and imports 33.8 per cent higher. 53.0 per cent of export-import transactions were with EU countries, 6.8 per cent with CIS countries and 40.2 per cent with other countries. Geographically, 59.1 per cent of the total turnover was with Europe, 25.1 per cent with Asia, 15.3 per cent with America, 0.5 per cent with Africa and 0.03% with Oceania. Over four fifth (81.3 per cent) of foreign trade operations were transacted with Italy, USA, Israel, India, France, Russia, Spain, Netherland, United Kingdom, Turkey, Indonesia and Chile.
