OREANDA-NEWS. December 8, 2008. Two Norwegian and Russian waste management companies have concluded an agreement on transport of wooden wastes from Murmansk to a waste combustion plant in Kirkenes.

The Norwegian waste management company “Ost-Finnmark avfallsselskap” (OFAS) has concluded an agreement with the Murmansk based company “Orkon-Invest” on purchase of 5000 tons of solid household waste from Russia to Norway.

The waste, which mainly will consist of discarded furniture, is to be burned at a planned waste combustion plant in Kirkenes. Construction of the plant will start next year, in connection with a new Norwegian law that comes into force on July 1 2009 and which prohibits disposing waste at tips. Energy from the plant will be used for heating up public buildings and private homes in Kirkenes.
