The level of air transportation in the countries - members of CIS does not meet integration requirements, this sector is not efficient enough and does not satisfy social demand of the population of CIS, whose mobility within CIS is considerably restricted by low availability of air transport, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

This is the bottom line of the report "On the State of Competition in the Market of Air Transportation on the Countries - Members of CIS", read by Igor Artemyev, the Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) at the Council of the Heads of Governments in November 2008.

The report examines international experience in competition protection on the air transportation market exemplified by the EU, with specific cases, presents approaches to the analysis of air transportation markets in the European Union, and discusses the most interesting antimonopoly cases on the market of air transportation and airport services in the countries - members of CIS, analyses the air transportation market in CIS and intergovernmental agreements on air traffic between CIS states, as well as gives recommendations on developing competition on the CIS market for air transportation.
