On December 15, 2008 Kazakhtelecom (Astana), shares of which are traded in Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) first category official list, provided to KASE the press release where informs that the leading Kazakhstan telecommunications operator continues implementation of the project "Upgrading and developing rural telecommunications, using WLL CDMA technology", reported the press-centre of KASE.

On December 12, Chairman of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Informatization and Communication Kuanyshbek Esekeev and Chairman of Kazakhtelecom Board Askar Zhumagaliev visited Almaty Region to familiarize with the project implementation in the region.

The project on development of wireless communication based on CDMA-450 standard is being implemented within the Government program "30 corporate leaders". The project implementation will allow complete eliminate the deficiency of communication services in rural areas.

The rural base station CDMA-450 coverage zone makes up 25-35 km. one such station can serve up to 1000 subscribers.

At present in Almaty Region based on CDMA-450 are already connected 13,550 subscribers. By the year end we plan to connect 1. 5 th. subscribers. This will allow coverage by the wireless access of 75% region territory and solving the issue related to installation of telephones in settlements. In the next year installation of base stations will allow the introduction of 25,500 additional telephone numbers.

In general, on the project "Upgrading and developing rural telecommunications, using WLL CDMA technology", Kazakhtelecom subsidiary VOSTOKTELECOM assembled 171 base stations in 12 regions of Kazakhstan. By the end of 2008, VOSTOKTELECOM is planning to install about 200 stations and connect over 61,000 telephones.

In 2009 we plan to connect within the project 165,000 terminals, including through introduction in the next year of 117 base stations across the country. In general the project assumes by 2013 the installation across Kazakhstan up to 900 stations that will allow the satisfaction of every rural inhabitant need in telecommunications services.
