OREANDA-NEWS  On 19 December was announced, that a new trunk road to link the northern alternative to Kutuzovsky Avenue with Zvenigorodsky Avenue will be built within the reconstruction of the area occupied by the Moscow western port.

“We plan to develop a highway along the right bank (of the Moskva River) towards MIBC Moskva-City which is to link the northern alternative to Kutuzovsky Avenue with Zvenigorodsky Avenue. So, we will make traffic near Moskva-City less busy,” Aleksandr Kuzmin, Head Architect of Moscow, said.

According to him, the reconstruction project also provides for lengthening the Moscow Metro from Mezhdunarodnaya station to the area of Marshala Zhukova Avenue.

“Thus, the drivers going to the centre from the west through the alternative to Kutuzovsky Avenue will be able to leave cars at a huge park-and-ride facility to be built and reach the centre by the metro,” the official noted.

Mr Kuzmin added that the car parking facility would have five underground levels and be able to accommodate 8,000 vehicles.

The construction of a cargo tunnel to be used for providing MIBC Moskva-City with goods is also stipulated by the project aimed at rearranging the port area.

The volume of containerized cargo delivered by the water transport is to be cut to 10 per cent, the most part of cargo will be hauled by the rail transport.

Moscow City Mayor Yuri Luzhkov approved the concept introduced at a session of the public council for urban development on December 17.
