OREANDA-NEWS. December 24, 2008. The Federal Administrative Service (FAS Russia) holds it counter-productive to create a state-run corporation in water supply and water drainage, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

Currently the water supply and water drainage systems in Russia are managed by a large number of organizations. It is a competitive and dynamic market.

According to FAS Russia, creating a state-run corporation, which combines state and economic functions, will reduce competition among the operators controlling the water supply and water drainage systems in Russian cities. Ultimately it will result in decreased the quality of services offered, in particular, to the population.

As reported in the media, the initiative to create such an organization was suggested by Vladimir Grachev, the Chairman of the Public Council at Rostekhnadzor (the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision).
