OREANDA-NEWS. January 11, 2009. SIA Ventspils nafta terminals, a subsidiary of a joint stock company Ventspils nafta, took into operation and started to use a new modern treatment plant – it is flexibly applicable for treatment of any kind of petroleum products, and it is based on a progressive technology that is unique in Baltic region.

Modern treatment plants will enable SIA Ventspils nafta terminals to solve environmental issues more effectively and at the same time essentially save financial resources of the company. New plants are very compact and therefore they are able to provide remarkable productivity, by adjusting required treatment level and adapting treatment process for a particular type of petroleum products. Treatment plants are located in the area of 50 square metres, and their operation is monitored by one operator of the company. Planned capacity of new treatment plants enables SIA Ventspils nafta terminals to treat up to 1,000 cubic metres of industrial and drain waters per hour.

Latest plants are especially applicable for topical activity trends of SIA Ventspils nafta terminals, which are characterised by variety of transhipped petroleum products – at the present moment the terminal receives and tranships more than 20 types of petroleum products. In case of nomenclature extension it will also be possible to flexibly apply treatment plants to new types of petroleum products.

Plants are produced on the basis of technologies developed by Dutch company Nijhuis Water Technology – this company specializes in production of industrial water treatment plants in the field of oil, chemistry and pharmaceutics. SIA Ventspils nafta terminals has invested about 1 million lats in the treatment plants.

SIA Ventspils nafta terminals increasingly focus its attention on environment protection measures, considering that the basis for rational further development is linked to the environment quality. The company adheres to a number of principles related to its environmental protection policy, including: study and reduction of the company’s unfavourable influence on the environment, provision of compliance of the company’s activity with the highest environmental standards, education and stimulation of employees to participate in implementation of the environmental policy, notification of society on the company’s environmental policy and achievements made during its implementation.

SIA Ventspils nafta terminals is a subsidiary of a/s Ventspils nafta. 51% of it belongs to a/s Ventspils nafta, but 49% – to Vitol’s company Euromin Holdings Limited. The terminal renders transit services: reception of crude oil and gas oil through the pipelines, reception of gas oil, motor gasoline and other petroleum products by rail and sea, as well as storage and transhipment of all these products.
