OREANDA-NEWS. On 26 January 2009 was announced, that the second bridge over the Moscow Canal is to start being built in the city’s northern district this year within the reconstruction of Leningradskoe Highway which is currently carried out in the Russian capital.

“Designing of the second bridge over the Moscow Canal in front of the MKAD is coming to an end. We plan to have this project approved in the first quarter of 2009 and then we will start building this bridge,” Aleksandr Levchenko, head of Department of Road and Bridge Engineering of Moscow, said.

The official added that a tender for implementing the first stage of the construction and mounting the bridge structures had been held. Mostotrest has been selected to act as a prime contractor at the development.

According to Mr Levchenko, the work is scheduled to be started in February 2009. The needed funds have been allocated, the metal structures are ordered.

Moscow City Mayor Yuri Luzhkov set the task to complete the heading work, to mount the bridge structures within 2009 and to proceed with the development, including the construction of access roads, next year.
