OREANDA-NEWS. On January 22-23, 2009 the delegation of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) participated in the International Competition Network' (ICN) seminar on the issues of the competition authorities' effectiveness organized at the support of DG Competition of the European Commission and Brazilian Competition Authority in Brussels (Belgium), reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

During the given seminar the competition authorities' representatives responsible for the strategic planning of their agencies exchanged ideas on different instruments and tools of the organization and planning of competition authorities' activity and their evaluation.

The results achieved in the frames of the seminar will be presented to the ICN Working group on competition policy implementation at the annual ICN Conference in Zurich in 2009.

Besides, on the ICN Steering Group meeting held during the seminar the Deputy Head of the FAS Russia Mr. Andrey Tsyganov made a report on the activity of the Advocacy Working group where the FAS Russia acts as is a co-chairman as well as informed the audience on the preparation of the joint ICN and OECD seminar on combating cartels which will be held on 19-20 May2009 in St.- Petersburg.

As the Deputy Head of the FAS Russia thinks the ICN today is a powerful international association of state antimonopoly authorities targeted at working out the ideas how to achieve better practical results in competition policy. That is why participation in this organization is one the priorities for the FAS Russia in its international activity.

During the Conference in Brussels the bilateral meetings with the representatives of Mexican and Brazilian competition authorities were held for the discussion of the development of the bilateral cooperation in the field of competition policy and issues of mutual interest.
