OREANDA-NEWS. February 6, 2009. Gus Toplumy poultry complex in Baharly Etrap, Ahal Velayat produces four tons of high-quality dietary chicken meat a day. For a few months since the complex was established the shops for keeping broiler chickens have been constructed, personnel has been trained and the enterprise has started to produce high-quality goods according to schedule. The complex is planning to steadily raise the production rates. After reaching its estimated capacity this private specialized enterprise will supply 3,000 tons of chicken meat to the trading network each year.

Successful implementation of this large-scale project vividly illustrates that in Turkmenistan entrepreneurship is rapidly developed standing in the forefront of the ongoing social and economic reforms. This is a direct result of the state targeted support to the private sector of the domestic economy. The measures taken on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov including unification of the exchange rate and free currency convertibility at the banks throughout the country, improvement of the tax policy and creation of the optimal system of benefits for private producers and establishment of the Union of Manufacturers and Entrepreneurs create new incentives to develop private business in the country. Turkmen entrepreneurs expand on industry and construction markets and actively contribute to implementing the large-scale reforms particularly in the agro-industrial sector and increasing food production.

Gus Toplumy is a concrete example of involving the private sector in realizing the agricultural doctrine “the best means produced domestically”. Gus Toplumy’s products are in popular demand on the domestic consumer market. After the first shops were put into operation the situation in chicken meat production was substantially changed having a positive impact on price movements and creating the healthy competition among chicken meat producers in the country.

This project is unique to a larger extent. It is the first poultry complex with the complete cycle in the country which will not depend on imports. At the current project stage Gus Toplumy fattens imported ROSS 308 broiler chickens until they reach slaughter weight. The local specialists will apply the Dutch technologies to build hatchings, incubators, special shops for young flocks there. The project provides for own food reserves and combined feed production. Fodder crops will be grown in the 2,000-hectare area in the Ahal and Dashoguz velayat.

Along with supplying high-quality and affordable food products to the domestic consumer market Gus Toplumy fulfills another important task – it creates new jobs. About 150 local people have received jobs and acquired new skills at the enterprise.

In the near future the similar complexes will be built in all the regions of the country.
