OREANDA-NEWS. February 10, 2009. Stroytransgaz has begun construction and assembly work at the start-up complex of energy blocks №1 and №2 at Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant-2. The facilities will generate combined electric power output of 2300 MW. Customer for the project is Energoatom Concern.

The construction site for the new energy blocks is situated in immediate proximity to the operating Novovoronezh NPP-1 in Voronezh Oblast’s Kashir region.

In accordance with the contract with general contractor Atomenergoproekt, Stroytransgaz will undertake a complex of work to build storage facilities for nuclear fuel for the new blocks.

In a consortium with Energospetsmontazh, Stroytransgaz will carry out general construction and heat-assembly work at the reactor’s main building for energy block №1 of the Novovoronezh NPP-2. Stroytransgaz will perform reinforcement, concreting, special, and finishing work and assemble conduits, steel framework, and basic and auxiliary technological equipment. It will also equip the new energy blocks at the Novovoronezh NPP-2 with advanced VVER-1000 reactor units for NNP-2006 projects. These units ensure a higher level of safety and economic performance than those in currently active energy blocks with comparable electric output.

Rosatom, the state nuclear power agency, is realizing the Voronezh project as part of its long-term (2009–2015) program.
