OREANDA-NEWS. February 09, 2009. Kolomensky Zavod (the city of Kolomna, the Moscow Region) has sent two DDA12000 diesel-diesel units to the JSC Severnaya Verf Shipbuilding Plant (St.Petersburg). The units will be part of the main propulsion plant of the multipurpose Soobrazitelny corvette class guard-ship of short-range maritime zone, project 20380, reported the press-centre of Kolomensky Zavod.

The DDA12000 was developed by the Kolomensky Zavod staff on the ALMAZ Shipbuilding Company order for the Russian Navy and successfully passed interdepartmental tests in 2006.

The diesel-diesel units are the ship main propulsion plant. Each DDA is made of two 16D49 diesels and a reverse and reduction unit. The unit specific feature is high power generated in reverse modes with high fuel and oil efficiency. It is fitted with an up-to-date microprocessor control and main operation parameters monitoring system.

The customer earlier installed two similar DDA12000 diesel-diesel units with the total power of 24,000 h.p. on the Steregushy (Guard) lead corvette of the series, which has been operational in the Baltic Sea since 2008.

The 20380 project ships are designed to patrol coastal waters, escort and destroy sea vessels.

DDA12000 in brief:

The DDA12000 automated diesel-diesel unit is designed for a fixed-pitch propeller. It has two up-to-date 6,000 h.p. 16D49 diesels, a two-speed reduction gear for combined and joined operation of diesels fitted with a soundproof composite clutch, a local microprocessor-based control, monitoring and protection system. The microprocessor control system can even load on the diesels, provide reverse modes, and switch off one of the diesels if necessary. Each diesel has a new original register supercharge system for increased power in maneuver modes.
