OREANDA-NEWS. On February 12, 2009 Minister of Agrarian Policy Yurii Melnyk announced, as of February 1 of the current year in agro-industrial complex of Ukraine 8 objects in production of biogas from wastes from cattle breeding and food industry are operating or being on the stage of introduction. He informed during a special sitting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to considering of investment projects.

According to him, on the stage of preparation are 15 more projects, which are planned to finance at the account of funds of enterprises and by means of attracting investments. In particular, in 2009-2010 it is planned to launch production of biofuel on ten distilleries which will enable enterprises to cut gas consumption by 40%.

According to the Minister, potential of production of biogas from waste amounts 21 bn cu meters at least.

Yurii Melnyk thinks local administrations have to activate cooperation with investors in the issues of elaboration and introduction of projects of biogas production.

At this, he imparted for now the Ministry of Industrial Policy has a respective “register of agro-industrial enterprises with addresses, kinds of wastes, volumes of wastes with an aim to work with potential investors”.

The Minister views, “we should fruitfully work with investors on all the levels”. “They wish to work with us, they forward their propositions, they seek possible ways of cooperation between authorities and business, so we should meet them halfway,” Yurii Melnyk urged.

Besides, it is crucial to make respective changes to the legislation in order to facilitate to production and use biological kinds of fuel. Yurii Melnyk emphasized on the need to elaborate and introduce national standards and normative acts to control quantity of biogas in compliance with the European legislation.
