OREANDA-NEWS  On 24 February was announced, that financing of Moldova’s public health increased 5.4 times in 2001-2008 – to 3 billion 307.8 million lei from 61.8 million lei.

It was said at the meeting of state-run medical institutions’ heads summarizing their activity in 2008 and evaluating results of the reform in public health started in 2004. It was also said that in 2001, public health costs made up 2.8 percent of the GDP, in 2008 – 5.8 percent of the GDP, being higher than the set minimum for developing countries. The increase in financing of health care allowed expanding services and medicines compensated within the framework of the obligatory medical insurance as well as expanding services, medicines and privileges provided to population within the framework of national programs in health care. A wide program of medical institutions’ restoration and their equipment with modern technologies has also been realized. Village population’s access to urgent medical assistance has increased twice in conditions of the obligatory medical insurance.
