OREANDA-NEWS. March 12, 2009. In January-February 2009, the port of Nakhodka handled 2.587.5 million tonnes of cargo (-0.8%, year-on-year).

In the reported period, the port handled 1.409.8 million tonnes of dry cargo (-12.7%, year-on-year) including 303,700 tonnes of dry bulk and loose cargo (+15.7%). Transshipment of ore totaled 73,000 tonnes (+4.3%), coal – 230,700 tonnes (+19.7%), timber - 108,300 tonnes (-36%) including 41,400 tonnes of round timber (down 3 times) and 66,900 tonnes of sawn timber (down 1.7 times).

In the 2-month period of 2009 the port handled 993,800 tonnes of general cargo (-13%) including 863,200 tonnes of ferrous metal (-12%), 55,400 tonnes of non-ferrous metal (+53%), 19,600 tonnes of scrap metal (+20%). Transshipment of refrigerated cargo amounted to 3,400 tonnes (down 2.6 times), packaged cargo - 48,100 tonnes (-24.7%). The port’s container throughput fell almost 11-fold to 682 TEU (against 7,477 TEU in January-February 08). Transshipment of oil products totaled 1.177.7 million tonnes (+18.5%).

Nakhodka port is located on both coasts in the northern part of Nakhodka Bay. The port has year round navigation. It is linked with railway systems of Russia and Western Europe by Trans-Siberian Line.
