OREANDA-NEWS. On 16 March 2009 was announced, that reconstruction of a multi-level interchange on Leningradsky Avenue near Sokol subway station of the Moscow metro is to be completed by the end of 2009.

According to Fazil Izmaylov, acting prefect of Moscow’s northern administrative district, Mayor Luzhkov set the task of completing the reconstruction in late 2009 and this work will be done despite the financial crisis.

Vladimir Varygin, vice-president of NPO Kosmos (acting as a prime contractor for the work), noted that Volokolamsky Tunnel was still under construction at the moment.

“The first section of the tunnel will be completed by the mid-year and it will be open to traffic from the [Moscow] region to the centre [of Moscow]. It will make the road interchange less busy,” the official emphasized.

The second section is to be open by the end of 2009.

Mr Varygin added that work aimed at driving Alabyano-Baltiysky Tunnel under the railway line of the Moscow metro had been started.

“It is a slow and complicated process. But we will endeavour to meet the deadline set by the mayor and hope to open this tunnel to traffic by the end of 2009,” the vice-president of NPO Kosmos noted.

Besides, the development of a section from Begovaya Street to Telmana Square, near Aeroport metro station, is to be completed by September 5, Moscow’s City Day.
