OREANDA-NEWS. March 19, 2009. This year, Ukio bankas will again contribute to a traditional charity campaign “Gerumo diena” (“Day of Kindness“) hosted by LNK TV, reported the press-centre of Ukio bankas.

For the second year in a row this day will be intended for fight against cancer. In support of this initiative Ukio bankas created a possibility for the Bank clients to donate money using internet banking system Eta banku or deposit cash in all Bank’s branches and client service units.

This year, the TV marathon, organised for the 7th time and being one of the biggest in Lithuania, will be held on 22 March. It will be aimed at helping Vilnius University Institute of Oncology, which currently is badly in need of a modern ultra sound apparatus that costs around LTL 800,000.

Ukio bankas clients will be able to make their Day of Kindness donations from 16 until 23 March.

“It’s a great honour for us to contribute to this noble goal. We are happy with the fact that generous donations of Lithuanian residents help medical institution to procure the required equipment. With the aim to facilitate money donation processes we have created the most convenient conditions for our clients to make donations online or upon visiting the Bank’s unit. We invite every resident of Lithuania to join this generous campaign,” Edita Karpaviciene, Ukio bankas Board chairwoman, said.

Last year, the total donated amount during “Gerumo diena” was LTL 1.6 million. Using these funds the Vilnius University Institute of Oncology opened two breast diagnostics equipment rooms being the most modern in the Baltics. The Kaunas University of Medicine Hospital acquired a gastroscope and pediatric and adult colonoscopes of an HDTV standard using the donated funds.

Several ways of making donations for the “Gerumo diena” have been provided. One way is to connect to Eta bankas and enter the required donation amount in the generated payment form. Another way of joining the campaign is to deposit cash to the support recipient’s account in any Ukio bankas branch or client service unit. One more choice is to enter the donation amount on the LNK website and select payment via Ukio bankas.

“We welcome Ukio bankas joining this campaign for the second year in a row. We believe that favourable donation conditions, offered by the Bank, which allow donors to transfer money to the campaign account without leaving home or office, will help collect more funds thus saving more lives,” Laura Paukste, producer of LNK TV charity project “Gerumo diena”, said.

The first LNK TV “Gerumo diena” campaign was launched in 2003. The total donated amount during six years is LTL 6.5 million, which was allotted to cancer fight, premature babies, children suffering from cerebral paralysis etc.
