OREANDA-NEWS. March 18, 2009. In the first week of March 2009, currency reserves of NBM have decreased by US 85,2 million, or 6,2% and amounted to US 1 billion 279,8 million on March 6, 2009.

According to NBM, since beginning of 2009, NBM currency reserves fell by US 392.61 million, or 23.5%. In January, 2009, NBM currency reserves decreased by US 168.02 million and in February – by US 139.39 million, respectively.

As of December 31, 2008, currency reserves of NBM amounted to US 1 billion 672.41 million. As the NBM representatives have noted before, the reduction of the currency reserves in January-February 2009, was due to the transactions on the sale of currency at the currency market of Moldova, the repayment of the foreign debt and other external payments, as well as the reduction in the exchange rate of currencies from the currency reserve against U.S. dollar.

It can be reminded that in 2008 currency reserves of Moldova have increased by US 338.72 million, or 25.4% - up to US 1 billion 672.41 million. As of December 31, 2007, NBM currency reserves amounted to US 1 billion 333.68 million. For 2009, IMF predicts a decrease in the currency reserves of Moldova by US 614 million.
