OREANDA-NEWS. March 19, 2009. In 2008, total sales at the market of electronic communication services in Moldova amounted to 5 billion 725,4 million leis (US 530,1 million), increasing by 12,3% as compared with 2007.

This was announced by the director of NARCETI Sergey Sitnic at the press conference:"The electronic communication market of Moldova in 2008: Results and prospects".

He noted that in 2008 this rate makes 9.11% of the country’s GDP. In terms of revenues, the market structure is as follows: the largest share - 50.9% is owned by mobile telephony, followed by: fixed telephony-38, 6%, Internet access and data transmission services- 6,4%, broadcasting and retransmission of audiovisual programs- 4,1%.

As compared with 2007, the share of fixed telephony at the market of electronic communication in Moldova fell by 7.4 points, while the share of mobile telephony, Internet access and audiovisual services increased by 4,3%, 2% and 1,1% , respectively.

According to NARCETI, in 2008 the share of mobile telephony market of Moldova has increased by 22,6% - up to 2 billion 914.7 million leis. In 2008, the total revenue of fixed telephony services’ providers amounted to 2 billion 208 million leis, decreasing by 5.85% as compared with 2007.

The sales of data transmission and Internet access services amounted to 366.1 million leis, exceeding performance of 2007 by 61,8%. The volume of broadcasting and retransmission of audiovisual programs services in Moldova reached 235.76 million leis, increasing by 53.85% as compared with 2007.
