OREANDA-NEWS. In the period of 16-20 March, 2009 the delegation of the FAS Russia visited Budapest for participating in Workshop on vertical restrains organized by the OECD-Hungary Regional Centre for Competition in Budapest (RCC), reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

RCC is a partnership project between the OECD and Hungary that provides foir development of competition policy and enforcement in Central and Eastern Europe.

This workshop was devoted to the joint discussion on the key issues regarding the application of competition law in vertical restraints cases. Basic attention was paid to the consideration and discussion of the current methodology to assess the potential distortion of competition resulting from such practices as selective or exclusive distribution, existence of exclusive territories and resale price maintenance.

During the workshop the delegation of the FAS Russia presented a case on the violation of the Russian antitrust legislation by the "Mechel" group of companies, which, in particular, established discriminatory conditions for the separate consumers of concentrates of close-burning brands of coals and unreasonably refused the conclusion of supply contracts for the concentrates of close-burning brands of coals to the separate consumers.

In general, participation in given workshop allowed the representatives of the FAS Russia to get familiar with practice of taking decisions on certain issues in other countries as well as to explain own point of view in relation to application of competition law in the Russian Federation.
