On 27 March 2009 OMZ (Uralmash-Izhora Group) (RTS: OMZZ; LSE: OMZD; OTC: UHMVY), one of the leading machine building groups with assets located in Russia and the Czech Republic, reported that OMZ Special Steels, a part of OMZ Group, has successfully passed a certification of its steel forgings designed for shipbuilding. The certification procedure was conducted by the Russian River Register (RRR).

The certificate allows OMZ Special Steels to manufacture forgings for the shipbuilding industry made from carbon, alloyed and stainless steels in accordance with Russian River Register’s rules. The certificate is valid until 2011.

The Russian River Register, founded in 1913, is a well-known and highly respected classification organization setting high quality standards for the shipbuilding industry and developing rules for ship construction and technical norms for the ships’ durability.

The Russian River Register certificate received by OMZ Special Steels confirms the high quality of OMZ Special Steels’ products developed for the shipbuilding industry. They have allowed the company to work successfully with domestic and international shipbuilding companies.

OMZ Special Steels' products for the shipbuilding industry have also been certified by a number of other classification societies which are International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) members, including the Russian Maritime Navigation Register (RMNR), Lloyd's Register of Shipping (LR, UK), Germanischer Lloyd (GL, Germany), Det Norske Veritas (DNV, Norway), Bureau Veritas (BV, France), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS, USA) and Registro Italiano Navale (RINA, Italy).
