OREANDA-NEWS. On 30 March 2009 was announced, that Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov officially opened Metropolis retail and entertainment centre at Leningradskoe Highway which will create approximately 2,000 jobs.

The total area of Metropolis exceeds 241,500 square metres. Its galleries are occupied by some 260 commercial companies. In particular, there are such retail chains and brands as Marks & Spencer, Sportmaster, M.video, Stockmann, Detsky Mir, Snezhnaya Koroleva, etc. in the mall.

“This centre has undoubtedly taken premier place among the largest retail objects. It is to be liked by its architecture – there is a lot of light inside. It has everything you want to buy and the prices for goods are acceptable for Muscovites,” Mr Luzhkov said.

The official emphasized that the development of Metropolis was especially important in conditions of the financial crisis.

“The fact we open such malls amid the crisis means that Muscovites believe in the future,” the mayor of Moscow noted.
