OREANDA-NEWS. On 30 March 2009 was announced, that in 2008, Russia was the top foreign trade partner of Turkmenistan. Trade turnover between Russia and Turkmenistan reached USD 6.9 billion in 2008.

Turkmenistan's exports to Russia totaled USD  6 billion while imports from Russia amounted to USD  0,9 billion. Apart from natural gas, which makes the bulk of Turkmenistan's exports, exports to Russia include textiles, chemicals, including rubber, agricultural produce. Imports from Russia include manufacturing equipment, machinery, metals and metal products, household goods, construction material, foodstuff and other products.

The Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation released data on trade turnover between Russia and Turkmenistan in 2008, excluding gas exports. The official report says Russian exports to Turkmenistan increased 2.1 times or USD  809,9 mln, Russian imports from Turkmenistan grew 1,5 times or USD  100,3 million. On the whole, trade turnover between the two countries grew 2 times or USD  910,2 million in 2008, excluding gas supplies.
