OREANDA-NEWS. March 31, 2009. POWER-GEN India and Central Asia Conference & Exhibition will take place at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India, Apr 2–4 2009.

This is Asia’s biggest power industry event.

Atomenergoprom OJSC will present a unified exposition demonstrating the capacities of Russia’s nuclear industry, the activities of the holding on the world market, information about Russian-Indian cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy and the services offered by Russian companies in the field of NPP construction and nuclear fuel cycle. The exposition will present the activities of Atomenergoprom’s subsidiaries: TVEL OJSC, Techsnabexport OJSC, Atomenergoproekt OJSC (Moscow) and Atomstroyexport CJSC (part of Rosato State Nuclear Energy Corporation).

Presently, Russia is the only country that is building a nuclear power plant in India. Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant is a Russian project implemented by Russian and Indian specialists in Tamil Nadu state. The general contractor of the project is Atomstroyexport CJSC. The plant will have two WWER-1000 (1,000MW) reactors. During its last meeting in Mar 2009 the Russian-Indian joint Coordinating Committee pointed out that the project was being implemented successfully according to the schedule.

During the state visit of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to India in Dec 2008, Russia and India signed a framework agreement for the construction of four more reactors at Kudankulam NPP. In Dec 2008 TVEL and Nuclear Power Corporation of India signed a protocol for supply of natural uranium oxide concentrate (2,000 tons) and enrichment of uranium for Indian nuclear power plants worth a total of \\$700mln. Feb 11 2009 the parties signed two contracts for supply of natural uranium to India. The first delivery to a plant in Hyderabad (India) will take place in the spring 2009. The fuel pellets manufactured by Elemash will be used by Indian nuclear reactors.

The Russian-Indian cooperation enjoys really wide development prospects now that the Nuclear Suppliers’ Group has lifted its restrictions on export of nuclear technologies to India. Presently, India has the world’s second biggest demand for new power plants. The Indian Government is planning to increase its nuclear power generating capacities to 40GW by 2025.
